Egypt's Wa3i.net Launch Sets Foundation for Expanded Cybersecurity Roadmap
National digital platform and Cairo-based academy programs target rising online threats for 98 million users as authorities outline next awareness steps.

Egypt has launched the Wa3i.net digital platform under its national Digital Citizenship and Online Protection initiative to strengthen cybersecurity awareness among nearly 98 million internet users, or 72.2 percent of the population.
The rollout addresses documented risks, including a 2024 report showing 27.4 percent of Egyptian users faced online threats and a 44 percent regional rise in phishing attacks. These figures have prompted authorities to scale training and best-practice tools across the country.
Greater Cairo Programs Drive Local Reach
In Cairo and Greater Cairo, the National Telecommunication Institute is running the second edition of the Cybersecurity Academy for Juniors and Youth. The free program targets 5,000 participants across school, university and graduate levels to build early-stage awareness and technical skills. Kaspersky has also expanded its Kids Cyber Resilience Project in the city, including a Family Cyberday event that trained more than 30 families on phishing recognition, social-media security and avoiding malicious sites.
These efforts operate alongside the Wa3i.net platform, which focuses on national digital best practices and threat reduction for the full 98 million users nationwide.
Evidence of Training Gaps and Index Standing
Supporting data shows only 46 percent of Egyptian employees have received cybersecurity training despite the 27.4 percent threat exposure recorded in 2024. Egypt maintains a strong position on the Global Cybersecurity Index, listed at ninth globally in one assessment and 23rd worldwide with a score of 95.45 in another, reflecting its national strategy and bodies such as EG-CERT.
With the Wa3i.net platform and the NTI academy now active, the next phase centers on wider adoption of these tools. Users in Greater Cairo and other governorates can access the platform for practical guidance on threat reduction while the academy continues its tiered training for students and graduates. Continued participation in these programs offers the clearest route to improved online protection.
