Cairo University recently formalised its commitment to this momentum by honoring 23 student-athletes for their successes in sports ranging from rowing and basketball to karate. To sustain this trajectory, the university has introduced full scholarships specifically for students representing Egypt in international competitions.

The 52nd University Championship in 2025 underscored the depth of local talent, culminating in a marquee final where the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport edged out Cairo University 71-60. That victory cemented the Academy’s position as the overall champion of the 2025 tournament and the Martyr Al-Rifai tournament standings. With the city now turning its attention toward the African University Championship, athletic departments are shifting their focus from local league rivalries to organizing the logistics required for hosting an influx of continental competitors.
